Helmsdale to Berriedale via both the JOGT and the A9 is 9 miles/14.5 km
Berriedale to Dunbeath via the JOGT is 6.5 miles/10.5 km and via the A9 is 6.1 miles/9.8 km
We have quoted distances for the A9 between Helmsdale and Dunbeath as this section of the JOGT involves a very difficult crossing of the Ousdale burn, as mentioned earlier. You could re-join the JOGT from the A9 at some point past Ousedale – the Badbea deserted village is well marked from the A9 and there is a car park where walkers can be dropped off (but be careful crossing the line of traffic!).
Details of this stage can be found on the JOGT website, where they are stages 8 and 9.
Helmsdale and Dunbeath both have shops and accommodation
