How did all this start?

The project to re-establish the medieval pilgrimage route between Tain and Kirkwall has it’s roots in the Caithness Book Club. The three members of that club who had created the Northern Saints Trails became the founder-members of the Northern Pilgrims’ Way Group SCIO at a meeting in Tain on 5th April 2019, organised by the Scottish Pilgrim Routes Forum.

The Symbolism of the Northern Pilgrims’ Way logo:

The central cross is from the St Andrew's cross on the Scottish flag.

The two lines represent the two saints – Duthac and Magnus

The pointed curves are copied from the Ulbster Stone, a Celtic carved stone originally at the site of an early chapel dedicated to St Martin at Ulbster, on our Braid Three and the John o' Groat's Trail. The site is now marked by a mausoleum.
